Submission

S3DS 2024 Call for Applications is open till 30 APRIL 2024.

Interested young scholars can apply online to participate in the summer school. Applicants have to upload an application dossier in one single PDF with:

Curriculum Vitae    

Please provide a short CV (max two pages)

Motivation Statement

Please outline your motivation for attending the summer school (max 300 words)

Research Proposal

Please outline the project you would like to present in the summer school (e.g. your research paper, conference contribution, publication draft, etc, max. 300 words)

The deadline for application is 30 April 2024.
Accepted participants will be notified by email in May and asked to confirm their participation within one week.
Participation is competitive and limited to 16 participants.

Fees

The summer school fee includes:

  1. tuition,
  2. lunches and coffee breaks,
  3. all group and social activities
  4. optional accommodation in student rooms or youth hostel

700 CHF (plus VAT)

PhD candidate from a partner University of the Swiss PhD-Network Democracy Studies:

450 CHF

with accommodation

250 CHF

without accommodation

 

There is no fee for Ph.D. Candidates enrolled at the University of Zurich

Terms and Conditions

Upon confirmation of participation, accepted participants should proceed with online payment of the respective fee through the UZH event portal.

Cancellation policy:

  • Cancellations made two months before: Full refund minus an administrative handling fee of CHF 50.00
  • Cancellations made one month before: Refund of 50%  minus an  administrative handling fee of CHF 50.00
  • Cancellations made two weeks before: No refund to be made.

Participants registered for workshops cancelled by the Summer School organizers will be entitled to a full refund with no administrative handling fee.

Grants

A few grants are available for accepted participants who don't have funding from their home institutions or elsewhere. Accepted participants can submit an additional grant application online upon acceptance.

The following eligibility criteria apply:

  • You are a self-funded graduate student;
  • You have not received a Summer School grant the previous year;
  • You have been accepted to the Summer School as a participant.

Please prepare the required documentation in advance:

  1. Written proof that you sought external Summer School funding (e.g. copy of the notice of rejection) or statement that you did not look for external funding;
  2. Official letter in English from the head of the department or the coordinator of your doctoral program stating you are self-funded and don’t have any internal funding available or other support towards the costs of the Summer School;
  3. Copy of your student ID card;
  4. Letter of recommendation (e.g., from your primary supervisor)

The Summer School can offer only one category, from the following options:  

  • Fee waiver or
  • Refund of travel costs
  • Coverage of accommodation costs

Please note that the application process is competitive, and success is not guaranteed. 

Visa

Participants are responsible for their visa application process.

A letter confirming participation for visa application purposes can be issued by the Summer School Office once the participant has confirmed participation and paid the registration fee.
