Thomas Reiss studied political science and geography at the University of Zurich from 2012 to 2018 and has worked as a research assistant at the Centre for Democracy Studies Aarau (ZDA) and as a tutor for applied statistics and international relations. After his studies he collaborated on the Survey "Security 2019" at the Military Academy (MILAC) at ETH Zurich, focusing on foreign and security policy. He joined the research group of Prof. Dr. Thomas Widmer as a PhD candidate in September 2019 in a project connected to the National Research Programme (NPR) 76 "Welfare and Coercion". More specifically, the project aims at examining the institutional settings and their implementation as well as the financing systems in the area of child protection policies. The focus of his dissertation will be on the explanation of cantonal child placement policies and practices.
