Curriculum vitae
Hannah Smidt has studied political science at the University of Mannheim, the Institut d’études politiques (Science Po) in Lille und Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. After completing her doctorate at University College London (2017), she worked as post-doctoral research fellow at the GIGA German Institute of Global and Area Studies in Hamburg and at the University of Oxford. Since September 2019, she is now the Head of Research Area ‘International Security, Peace and Conflict’ at the Department of Political Science at the University of Zurich. Her research centres on election-related violence and democratization in conflict-affected countries, United Nations peacekeeping operations and repression directed against civil society organisations.
Research Focus
International Organization and International Governance, Security Studies, Peace and Conflict Studies, including specifically the comparative analyses of political violence and repression, restrictions against civil society organizations, international peacekeeping operations, international peacebuilding, and post-war democratisation.
