Philipp ist Postdoktorand am Lehrstuhl für Politische Ökonomie und Entwicklung. Im Januar 2024 schloss Philipp seine Dissertation „Essays on accountability and participation in the Global South: How information shapes opinions and behavior” erfolgreich ab. Philipps allgemeine Expertise liegt im Bereich der politischen Ökonomie, insbesondere in nicht-westlichen Kontexten. In seinem neusten Projekt untersucht Philipp strukturelle, ökonomische Erklärungsansätze für den globalen Erfolg der radikalen Rechten, mit einem besonderen Fokus auf den Globalen Süden. In seiner Forschung entwickelt und testet Philipp neue theoretische Argumente. Vor seiner Dissertation studierte Philipp Ökonomie (B.Sc. und M.Sc.) an der Universität Konstanz.
