Curriculum vitae
Prof. Dr. Elham Manea ist Titularprofessorin für Politikwissenschaft, spezialisiert auf den arabischen Nahen Osten, Schriftstellerin und Menschenrechtlerin. Sie ist Schweiz-Jemenitin und lebt und arbeitet in der Schweiz.
Ihre Forschungsschwerpunkte sind die Regionalpolitik der Arabischen Halbinsel, fragile Staaten in Konfliktgebieten der MENA-Region, insbesondere im Jemen, Gender und Politik sowie Frauen unter muslimischen Gesetzen und der politische Islam.
Sie ist Fulbright-Stipendiatin, Titularprofessorin, Venia Legendi und promovierte in Politikwissenschaft an der Universität Zürich, erwarb einen Master in vergleichender Politikwissenschaft an der American University in Washington D.C. und einen Bachelor in Politikwissenschaft an der Universität Kuwait. Manea arbeitete acht Jahre lang als Journalistin beim Schweizer Radio International (Swissinfo) und war stellvertretende Chefredakteurin des arabischen Dienstes von Swissinfo. Heute arbeitet sie am Institut für Politikwissenschaft der Universität Zürich und als unabhängige Beraterin. Von 2010 bis 2019 war sie Mitglied der Eidgenössischen Kommission für Frauenfragen. Im Jahr 2020 wurde sie zum Mitglied der Eidgenössischen Kommission für Migration ernannt, wo sie als Vizepräsidentin tätig ist. Sie hat wissenschaftliche Bücher und Sachbücher auf Englisch, Deutsch und Arabisch sowie zwei Romane auf Arabisch veröffentlicht. Ihr aktuelles Forschungsprojekt befasst sich mit den Folgen der arabischen Aufstände. Zwei Buchveröffentlichungen sind geplant: Eine mit dem Titel The Yemeni Civil War: The Arab Spring, State Formation, and Internal Instability; und eine weitere mit dem Titel Gulf Rivalry and the Outcomes of the Arab Uprisings.
