Born in Ethiopia in 1989, Betel Bekele Birhanu earned her MA in International Relations from Addis Ababa University in 2013. She also obtained her BA in Political Science and International Relations from Addis Ababa University in 2011. She was working as a lecturer at the School of Humanities and Law, Adama Science and Technology University, Ethiopia; and at the College of Social Sciences, Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia. In addition, She was working as an intern researcher on a book and a database project with an Ethiopian non-governmental organization- the Network of Ethiopian Women Associations (NEWA), where she was entrusted with responsibilities of desk-based and field work research. As of september 2014, she is pursuing her PhD in Political Science at the University of Zurich under the supervision of PD Dr. Elham Manea. Her research interests include human rights, gender, civil society and development with a special focus on the horn of Africa.
